The franchise’s thrilling resurgence “Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation”



Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation is an American spy-action film. The film was co-written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie. It is the fifth episode of the Mission: Impossible film saga. The film features Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Ving Rhames, Sean Harris, and Alec Baldwin with Cruise, Renner, Pegg, and Rhames reprising their roles from the preceding installments. The production of Rogue Nation was by Cruise, J. J. Abrams and David Ellison under Skydance Productions. The film is about an IMF agent Ethan Hunt, who is on a constant run from the CIA, as after the IMF’s demobilization, he tries to prove the reality of the “Syndicate”, an international criminal organization.


The movie features Tom Cruise as IMF agent Ethan Hunt, Simon Pegg as IMF technical field agent Benjamín “Benji” Dunn, Jeremy Renner as IMF Field Operations Director William Brandt, Rebecca Ferguson as Ilsa Faust who is an MI6 agent undercover in the Syndicate, Ving Rhames as IMF agent Luther Stickell, Sean Harris as Solomon Lane who is a former MI6 agent who went rogue to lead the Syndicate, Alec Baldwin as CIA Director Alan Hunley, Jens Hultén as Janik “Bone Doctor” Vinter, Simon McBurney as MI6 Director Attlee who is the creator of the Syndicate and Ilsa’s former handler, Zhang Jingchu as CIA analyst Lauren, Rupert Wickham as the Austrian Chancellor, America Olivo as the Chancellor’s wife, Tom Hollander as the British Prime Minister and Hermione Corfield as an IMF agent who doubles as a record-shop keeper in London.


The movie focuses on the recently disbanded and Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise), surviving out in the cold. As a new threat called the Syndicate oozes forth. The Syndicate is a complex network of highly skilled operatives, devoted to determining a new world order via an increasing series of terrorist attacks. Brought face to face with what may be the most impossible mission yet, the protagonist, Ethan gathers his team and forms a coalition with Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson), a disavowed British agent.

Critical Reception

The film was met with standing ovations and a significant amount of critical acclaim with the praise and admiration directly aimed towards the thrilling action sequences. Rebecca Ferguson’s character and performance was also highly appreciated.

On the box Office

The movie being a huge critical and commercial success, made $55.5 million during its opening weekend at the U.S. box office and has earned over $195 million in North America and $682 million worldwide.
